Missions

If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs. Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward your needy brother and give him nothing. He may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin. Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land. Deuteronomy 15:7-11

Daisy’s Closet

In the summer of 2006, we began a ministry based at the Homestead Power Squadron to provide free clothing for the needy. It was the continuation of a vision from Daisy, the mother of a church member. Because of the wonderful generosity of the members of the Homestead Power Squadron, who donated their space, the ministry has grown beyond what anyone had expected. It is open on the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 7:30-9:30 A.M. People start lining up as early as 6:30 A.M. with about 75 people showing up each time.

Our hope and dream is to share the love of Christ with a community that has great personal and spiritual needs. We have been amazed at the outpouring of support from the Christian community as clothes keep arriving with little or no publicity. If you would like to donate, you may contact us,  or drop it off at the Power Squadron on the second or fourth Saturday of every month.

Patches

Patches is a not-for-profit corporation where children with extreme medical needs and their families are given sensitive, compassionate care. Through educational services, Patches educates parents/caregivers about their child’s condition or illness and the interventions that will increase their child’s wellness. Patches is a nursing center that provides 12 hours of nursing care to children ages birth to 21 years who have extraordinary medical conditions and provides a safe, cost effective alternative to home nursing care or hospitalization. Services available in the therapy department are: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and respiratory therapy.

Speedway Community Church is reaching out to support Patches by volunteering to play and read with children, to provide items used in the daily care of the children, diapers, clothing, food, over-the-counter medication, and contributing to the food pantry.

Youth For Christ

Youth For Christ (YFC), under the local leadership of Stacy Morales and Mary Ann Draghi, has been wonderfully successful with KIX. The KIX program shares the love of Christ with needy children throughout Homestead and the Florida City area. We continue to increase our involvement as our commitment to this ministry grows.
